About Akhil Anand

Akhil Anand has a 19-year vast and substantial experience in the practise of law primarily relating to Information Technology Laws and Criminal Law including white collar crime.

Akhil is a seasoned litigating lawyer, and handles a wide array of matters including in the field of information technology laws, data privacy, insolvency laws, arbitration claims, consumer disputes, criminal law, online gaming and quite able in leading evidence, conducting trials and addressing final arguments.

Akhil has successfully handled matters along with his team before various Forums like the Supreme Court, High Courts, District Courts and various Tribunals. He has also relevant experience in handling investigations and conducting cross examination before various courts. Akhil has regularly represented various social media companies before various courts in the country.

Akhil regularly represents and advise Google (and its affiliate companies) on an ongoing basis on various matters relating to Information and Technology laws. In the past, he has also represented Facebook Inc., WhatsApp Inc. and Twitter Inc. on various issues related to Information and Technology laws.

Akhil advise and represents Online Gaming companies before various High Courts in respect of bans imposed by the respective State Governments on Online Gaming. Recently, the High Courts of Madras, Kerala and Karnataka while upholding the legality of online games of skill such as online rummy and fantasy sports, struck down the respective amendments, which effectively placed a blanket prohibition on online games of skill

Akhil had represented ArcelorMittal, one of the resolution applicants in insolvency resolution process, before the Adjudicating Authority, the Appellate Tribunal and before the Supreme Court of India. The judgment rendered by the Supreme Court is the first authoritative pronouncement, inter alia, on the functioning / carrying of the insolvency resolution process under IBC, powers and functions of the resolution professional and the CoC, the process timelines and most importantly the import of Section 29A of IBC. In addition, advising ArcelorMittal during the preparation, drafting and submission of the resolution plan, including the issues in relation to the eligibility under Section 29A of IBC.

Akhil is registered with the Bar Council of Delhi and holds an LLB degree from the University of Delhi. He is also a registered Advocate on Record.
