About Rimali Batra
Rimali joined DSK Legal in June 2015. She was a merit rank holder at the University of Pune and holds a master’s in law from University of Oxford, UK, where she specialized in regulatory laws, philosophical foundations of common law and dispute resolution.
She has been practicing in Energy and Regulatory Litigation for over 10 years now and also has an extensive experience of handling arbitrations / dispute resolution. She represents and advices a wide range of government and non-government organizations.
She also practices in projects and policy advisory and has a wide-ranging experience of working in the Oil-Gas and the Railways sector.
Relevant Experience – Energy and Regulatory Litigation
- Evolving frameworks, regulatory regime & policies and functioning of regulated utilities including Distribution Licensee.
- Strategizing and Arguing regulatory matters before the Supreme Court, High Courts, Appellate Tribunals and Regulators
- Advising solar, wind, hydro projects and representing them in various state commissions.
- Advising and representing companies to be set up Power Traders and Distribution Licensees.
Relevant Experience – Dispute Resolution
- Assisted clients with formulation of comprehensive and innovative dispute resolution strategies both before and after a dispute arise. Represented clients such as UIDAI, GAIL, SAIL, IOCL, PTC India Limited, DHVBN, UHBVN, HVPNL among many others.
- Rendered legal opinions on wide array of issues in Contract Act, Transfer of Property Act, Electricity Act, PNGRB Act, Companies Act among others.
- Steered, strategized and contested various high stake litigations including civil suits, consumer disputes, writ petitions, appeals, revisions, reviews and special leave petitions.
Relevant Experience – Projects
- Assisted the Ministry of Power and Ministry of Oil and Gas for implementing policy of reviving gas-based power projects and setting up of a Gas Exchange of India, respectively.
- Advising on various power projects i.e., thermal, gas, wind and solar power projects and transmission projects including development, operation, and maintenance of these projects.
- Advising on various infrastructure projects i.e. road projects, railway projects, etc. including development, operation and maintenance of these projects.
- Advising on applicable constitutional, legal, policy and regulatory issues; drafting laws, delegated legislation, policies, regulatory instruments and reform / restructuring strategies.
- Advising the Ministry of Railways in setting up / re-development of Railway Stations.
