Kirat is an advocate with over 22 years of experience in commercial/ corporate and regulatory disputes, international and domestic arbitrations, and white collar crimes. He also advises his clients and other practice area heads extensively on litigation advisory and strategy.

He is known for devising ingenious strategies to get the best possible outcome for his clients and distinguished himself as a trusted advisor to a number of promoters and boards.

His recent successes include multi million dollar awards passed in favour of his clients in SIAC, ICC administered and ad-hoc international arbitrations presided by Tribunal members from India, England, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, and New Zealand.

Kirat has successfully acted for clients in marquee and complex commercial disputes and appears regularly before various fora including International and Domestic Arbitration Tribunals, the Supreme Court of India, several High Courts, as well Tribunals and Commissions all across India at all stages of proceedings including interim hearings, cross examinations and substantive final hearings.

Kirat is also recognized as a go-to counsel for infrastructure disputes including both domestic and international arbitrations. He also has a wide ranging experience in white-collar crimes, including clients involved in the multiple faceted scams and anti-bribery investigations.

Recent Key Assignments

  • Representing Larsen and Toubro in arbitration proceedings against NTPC in relation to construction of a hydro power project, with quantum of disputes in the range of INR 1200 crores (approx. USD 142 million). Argued and successfully obtained critical orders in favour of client during the pendency of arbitration and related court proceedings.
  • Successfully appeared as lead counsel in SIAC administered arbitrations for Bharti Group in disputes related to telecom service agreements, which resulted in arbitral awards in favour of the client.
  • Successfully represented MSA Global LLC in ICC administered proceedings for urgent interim reliefs and also obtained a Partial Award in favour of the client. Also successfully represented the promoter in an international arbitration and related court proceedings in a multi million dollar dispute arising out of a limited liability partnership agreement.
  • Successfully represented Minister of Women and Child Development, and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (CBFC) in several court proceedings related to issues of defamation, certification and release of prominent movies, and payment of license fee by DTH operators.
  • Successfully represented IDBI Trusteeship Services Limited before the Supreme Court of India on the issue of grant of unconditional leave to defend in summary suits. The Supreme Court laid down new position of law in the said judgment.
